The Lapped Zipper application involves a conventional zipper, which is most commonly used on the left side seam or center back seam of pants, skirts and dresses. This is the most widely used methods for inserting a zipper, which opens at the top seam.
*Zipper foot needed
Directions:
1. Shrink your zipper ( do this by placing a pressing cloth over the zipper, and then using steam, iron the zipper)
2. Sew your seam from bottom to top leaving an opening in the seam the length of the zipper, plus 5/8 inch.
3. Press seam flat open. Then press left side to 5/8 inch (or which ever side you want to lap) Press the right side to 3/8 inch
4. Put your zipper foot on your machine.
5. Sew on the right side of the zipper on (the 3/8 inch side) with zipper face up, and 3/8 inch side face up on top of the zipper, 1/8 inch away from the teeth.
6. Turn project so right sides are all facing up.Straighten project so seams line up and lap in over zipper. Starting at the bottom of the lap, stitch across the bottom 3/8 inch, with needle in the down position, turn and sew up the left side (5/8 inch side) at a 3/8 inch seam allowance.

I will have to revisit this post when an project gets to this point. I have successfully avoided zippers altogether though.
I think you did this post just for me. But, I read the directions and it is still confusing!
