Max'sFirst Birthday Celebration

On Saturday we had a some family and friends over to help us celebrate Max's Birthday. We had pizza and cupcakes. It was fun. The only sad thing is, Max had a fever (for like 3 days) and his top gums are all red and swollen. Poor baby. So he didn't have the best time. He enjoyed his pizza and cupcake, but his heart wasn't all the way in it. Its ok to cry on your birthday right?
I made his party hat using THIS pattern.  I'm going to make us all one for our birthdays so we can wear them every birthday.  I think it will be fun, and cute!
Some Birthday love
This is how Max was every time he wasn't being cuddled. I'll admit, I thought he was super cute-though sad.
I made Max's birthday shirt as well.  It has two cars on the front, with button tires. And an 01 on the back.  Then, just so there is no confusion, I put his name on it :)
Here he is, ready for a nap :)
Remember THIS contest? Well, I got third place!

52 Finishes: Week 12- The Ketchup Top

Have you heard about the Boys Shirt Contest over at I Am Momma-Hear Me Roar?
I Am Momma Hear Me Roar
You have?  You haven't?  Well, basically, create a shirt for your little (or big) guy and link it up to her blog party going on today.  Then it will be judged, and if you win, there are some pretty sweet prizes.  Plus there will have a bunch of fun ways to create, sew, embellish and have fun with boy tops that other bloggers have come up with to draw inspiration from.  Its all very exciting.

I have wanted to make a shirt that has a bottle of ketchup on it for a while now.  Ya know, I love ketchup.  I love the shape of the bottle, the label.  I love that you can buy a huge jug, or run into the fast food place and get a little packet. Oooh, I love everything about it!!  So a ketchup shirt just had to happen.  My sister Nancy was going to donate a bunch of things to the local thrift store, but I stole saved a couple clothing items, and made Max a new spring jacket out of it.  Here's a before of Nan's jacket
And here is the new Ketchup Top for Max...

I made the Ketchup bottle out of vinyl using my Silhouette (love!!)  so if you want the file, you can email me (share_roll (at) hotmail (dot) com)  and I'll send it to you- if you love ketchup as much as I do...
Doesn't Max look so grown up sitting on our porch stairs?! I could just die cause he's so darn cute!  Yeah, I parted his hair (I'm one of those people) but I love it, I think it makes him look quite dashing :)
I just used one of Max's old shirts to get create the pattern, and cut away.  I used the existing hems from the upcycled shirts, and I think it turned our pretty cute.  It's a welcome edition to the Mr.'s spring wardrobe.

Happy Birthday Max!!

You're been the love of my life since the day you were born Mister!  When I first saw you, I thought you were everything; chubby, blond, rosie, cuddly and perfect.  You've been our MR.  You love milk, and getting into trouble.  You get sad when we tell you no, and like to snuggle your blanket.  You love your morning dose of Cheerios, and watching TV late at night.  You giggle when we chase you, crawl with your head looking down, and run into things.  You love to stand under the table, and play in the bedroom with Jayne.  The kitchen fascinates you, and so do computer cords.  You love to yell happily.  When you're sad, my heart breaks.  I love your little voice, and how you babble.  You stand  whenever possible, and are so proud of your accomplishments.  We love you Mister Max, our baby boy!

How to Catch a Leprechaun

Catching a leprechaun is tricky. I'll admit, I've been trying for some 20 years, and have yet to succeed. There are few things I know to be fact though. The first thing is how to attract a leprechaun. They love three things for sure, GREEN, GOLD, and RAINBOWS. When building a trap, use these things to your advantage. The second is, leprechauns are the best escape artists. You have to make your trap full proof. You have to think of ways the leprechaun could escape, and then guard against it. The third thing (and perhaps most important) If you do manage to catch one of these little men, they HAVE to give you their gold. Its leprechaun LAW. So we (Jayne and I) made a trap to catch a leprechaun. It was based roughly on THIS trap.
We set the trap last night, and Jayne was pretty excited. She said,
"When I catch the little leprechaun, I will keep him in my hands (shows cupped hands).  And then he can sleep under my pillow, and I will take care of him."
Then she very tenderly said,
"But it will be OK if I don't catch one, because he would miss his mother if I did.  And he would be sad."
This morning we checked the trap, I was a little nervous, because I couldn't see a way for the leprechaun to escape.  Honestly, I don't think I would know what to do if we actually caught a leprechaun, I've been trying for so long.  Anyway, this is what we found...
They escaped again!!  Here's what the note to Jayne said...
Jayne (they spelled her name right!)
Ye caught me! but I got away! Unfortunately, some of my gold had to stay. (cause its law!)
love, Patrick the leprechaun
Then they left some of their gold, and a little bit of rainbow (cause gold is always at the other end of a rainbow).
Jayne seemed pretty happy with what the leprechaun left for her.  She said he probably went home to eat gold candy with his family.  She's probably right.

Look Familiar?

I took a picture of Max this morning, and was reminded of a similar picture I took of Jayne when she was 11 months old.  I love it, They look more alike than I thought.

(Max, March 2011)
Whatcha think, are the definitely siblings?

52 Finishes: Week 11- Brown Slippers

I made these slippers for my sister Karissa.  I thought she needed something cozy and comfy.  I used the same pattern as my RED slippers, but I decided to make the strap a little wider (4 stitches wider).  I also used thicker yarn, and larger needles than with my red pair.
I've already said this, but this is the best slipper pattern ever.  They're pretty fast to make up (as far as knitting goes!) and they are so SO sooooooooooooooo comfortable.  My sister Nancy said it best "They just form to your feet and feel so good!"
It's like you're giving your feet a hug, wearing these beauties.  Go spread some love, and knit yourself a pair!

11 1/2 Months

Our little man is growing up!  He's almost a year old. It seems like he just joined our family, and also that we've had him forever.  He crawls really fast, bobbing his head and making little grunts.  He still only has two teeth on the bottom, but one of his top front teeth has popped through.  The other one will be through next week I think.
Max LOVES dry cereal.  He's learning how to drink out of a sippy cup.  He loves to pull himself up on everything.  When he sees you come into the room, he crawls up to you til his head bumps into you, then he pulls on your pant legs.  Max loves to jabber nonsense and "yell" at Jayne to get her to play with him.  He also loves to follow Jayne into her room to play.  He's pretty great at opening drawers and cupboards, and loves to "get in trouble."  He just laughs when you move him, and does it again- so naughty!
Oh we love our Mister!

Fire Station Field Trip

For preschool today, Jayne's class went to the fire station. It was pretty great. One of the boy's in the class has a dad that is a fireman, so he gave us the tour. Funny enough, the fireman's name is Chard. Haha! (really it's Richard, but he's always gone by Chard) Anyway, Jayne got to see the firetrucks, and go inside. Chard answered questions and asked the kids what they should do if their house was on fire (check the door, and if its hot, just wait in your room. If its safe, then get out of the house!) Chard also put on all of his gear. Jayne was fine until he started to crawl on the ground, she was on the front row and got scared. She was crying. As soon as Chard took his gear off, she started laughing and said, "oh! It's Jake's dad!" Hopefully she won't be so scared in the future. I was telling her that fireman are our Friends and save our lives, that they dress up in that big costume to protect them from fire. She was OK after a little while. Then all the kids got a fireman hat and some candy. It was a good little tour.
The net below is no longer in use.  Chard was telling us that one of the guys on the squad had to jump off the top of the fire station building into the net when he joined the force.  To test his bravery or something.
This station in the only one in Idaho Falls that has a pole. Chard is sliding down it, but he went so fast I couldn't take another picture,  You can just barely see his feet.

The fireman don't want kids to be afraid of them, so they encourage the community to come in and take a tour.  It was neat to see some of the old equipment they used back in the day.  And its always exciting to see a firetruck, no matter how big you are.

52 Finishes: Week 10- Reversible Messenger Bag, Take 2

I made another messenger bag. I can't help it, they are just so easy and cute!
This one I made with a knitter in mind.  It has sectioned pockets for knitting needles, scissors, crochet hooks and other knitting accessories.  Its big enough to carry around 1-3 small projects.  It has a large zipper pocket that would be perfect for holding patterns
I think everyone NEEDS a bag like this.  They're so simple and fun.
