52 Finishes: Week 35- Charlie's Blessing Suit

I actually made Charlie two blessing outfits, the first was about 2 inches too big.  I didn't  measure him to make sure I was making the right size, grrrrr!  But I liked the 2nd one better anyway.  It just came together so perfectly.
This little  blessing set includes separate vest, coordinating pants and bow tie. Button closure for the vest, soft velcro to attach bow tie, elastic on the waist of pants.   Fabric is soft for baby's skin. The main fabric is a soft micro Corduroy. It stretches with baby's movements.  The lining is made from a cozy Cotton Sateen, for a light sheen with a little stretch. There are ribbon accents on the pants, vest and bow tie. The pockets are functional (for that binkie, right?)
I decided to use corduroy because it's one of my favorite fabrics.  It's a micro corduroy, which is perfect for babies, and not too distracting.
The buttons are a little fancier with a faux jewel in them
The pants have a wide leg, I just can't get into the tapered look.
It was the perfect outfit to go on my perfect baby!

52 Finishes: Week 34- Cat's Scarf

My friend Cat had a birthday this week, so I made her this scarf.  Sorry for the not so great photo, I wanted a picture of it but had to wait for Darick to get home (dark outside, plus non-matching shirt... not cute photo)  It's made from a cute striped knit, has a little applique and measures about 65X7 inches.  I might make a few more, should I put some in my shop??  To see my other finishes, click HERE

52 Finishes: Week 33- Chevron Baby Blanket

I started on this blanket the second week of October.  I was working on it like mad, and was totally in a groove.  Then November hit.  I got super busy with other projects, and just didn't have a ton of time to knit.  I wanted to get the blanket done before Charlie arrived, which is why I started on it in October.  Well, December arrived and the blanket still wasn't done!  I started working on it more, determined to finish it.  I still had a load of other things I was doing.  December is sort of a blurry.  It was just a crazy busy month!  On Christmas Eve, I had about 10 more rows to do before I finished, so I made myself sit and knit til it was DONE.  I'm glad I did because I love that it is finished and Charlie sleeps with it every night (cause I wrap him up in it- maybe someday he'll choose to sleep with it?!)  This is my first BIG knitting project, and also the biggest thing I've  made out of yarn.  It's cool to think that I fabricated this blanket one stitch at a time! (It makes me feel like a super hero or something :)  Someday I'll knit really fast like my sister, I don't know how she does it!
The pattern is free, and found HERE
The yarn is a wool/poly blend.  It's yarn made to be made into blakets.  I love it, so soft, lofty and cushy!
Charlie likes it too.... I think- he didn't exactly tell me :)

52 Finishes: Week 32- Baby Weber's Blessing Dress

My little brother Ian and his wife Karissa are having their first baby in February, a little girl. We're all so excited for them! I wanted to make her blessing dress, and they were nice enough to humor me :) I can honestly say it's one of my most favorite things I've ever made. (Max's purple suit being one of my other favorites)
I used the same idea as Ellorie's Baptism dress, only smaller for a baby.  The dress has bridal lace on the bodice, sleeves and back. Lace has embroidery and beading With cap sleeves, back button opening, and long gathered skirt with ruffles.
Dress is 21 inches long. Chest is 18.5 inches. It's made from soft cotton sateen fabric, it makes up the base of the dress as well as the ruffles. I love this fabric because it's so soft and comfy against baby's skin.
If the baby looks a little manly, he is.  Sorry Charlie!!

52 Finishes: Week 31- Ellorie's Dress

My friend Brittany is an Artist.  A couple months ago I asked her if she would trade me a dress for a painting of Max.  She agreed, and made THIS awesome painting of Max.  I had the idea of what I wanted to make for a while now, but actually made the dress last week.  Here it is!  Modeling it is my niece Alexis.  The dress is for Brittany's almost 8 year old who is getting baptized in January.
It's made out of Cotton Sateen mostly, but has a lace overlay on the skirt.  There is also a Satin Sash and ribbon.
I think it turned our really cute, there were a couple areas I had to troubleshoot.  Like the ruffles- they were er.... fun to work with.  Overall, I am in LOVE, it was a pretty great project.  Its fun to make something from scratch and have it work out.

52 Finishes: Week 30- Monsters!

I have a craft fair coming up and I wanted to restock my Etsy Shop, so I made a few (7) Sweater Monsters.
Its so hard to choose a favorite, they seem to get personalities of their own.
I love the pocket in the front, perfect for a tired baby monster.

Sometimes the babies look just like their momma, or daddy...

And sometimes they have a color pattern all their own.
 One thing's for sure...
 They are totally lovable!

52 Finishes: Week 29 Baby Wood's Blessing

A couple weeks ago my sister Shavonne's baby was blessed.  I made his little outfit back in July, but wanted a picture of him in it before I posted it as a finish.
I love this suit pattern, these little blessing outfits are probably one of my most favorite thing I make.
The embellishments include sheer ribbon, and pockets.  So simple, but they make a huge impact on dressing up a pair of pants
Isn't he just perfect!? Serious, I loved seeing him on his special day

52 Finishes: Week 28- Red Riding Hood Coat

Jayne is going to be Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween, and I didn't just want to make her a cape.  I wanted something she could wear after Halloween too.  So I used a coat pattern from Ottobre Magazine (the 1/2010 issue).  I used red corduroy for the outside, and brown fleece for the inside.
The pattern had a collar and not a hood, so I had to make up the pattern for the hood piece.
It has a little pleat be the shoulders, so it sort of covers her a bit more
I think she can wear it until at least December, and then again in the spring.  She loves it and wanted to sleep in it.  Its so nice that she loves it when I sew for her!

52 Finishes: Week 27- Mix N Match People Blocks

Back in April or something, I made these people blocks, I just couldn't share them then because they were for a contest.  I just stumbled across my pictures of them and thought I would share then now. They are a set of four blocks, consisting of heads, torsos, legs and feet.    You can mix and match them to create funny people.   They are sort of like paper dolls, but you just rotate the block.
We have a pirate and a teacher
 A rocker and a nurse
And a lawyer and hula girl

So we get a lawyer rocker nurse pirate person... or a pirate nurse hula rocker.  There are so many different possibilities, they are fun to play around with.

To make them, I drew the people. Then I painted them with water colors, scanned the pictures onto the computer.  Scaled them to the size I wanted, printed them off, cut them up and mod podged them onto the blocks.  Seems like a ton of work, but it was pretty fun and easy.  I never won the contest I submitted them to, and I really don't understand why not :)  To see my other finishes, click HERE

52 Finishes: Week 26 Newsboy Caps

I haven't crocheted in a while so it was fun to work on these two hats.  They have a cute chunky kind of stitch, and then with the added brim, they are adorable on children.  I made one for Jayne about 2 years ago, and loved it when she wore it.  I really should make her another one.  I still have the dark brown one, I'm going to list it in my etsy shop.  Its about a 3-6 month size.    To see my other finishes, click HERE. Can you believe it, I'm halfway done! Only 26 finishes to go...

52 Finishes: Week 24- Pierrot Tunic Week 25- More slippers!

I was asked to test a pattern for Rae, as in Made by Rae. I made the 4T size for Jayne, its called the Pierrot Tunic (see more that Rae made HERE).  I'm sure it will be on the market within the next month. I thought it was a really good pattern, with only a few minor things I would change.  Jayne was being so funny when she was modeling it for me.  She's been cracking me up lately!
"Does this make me look so beautiful, mom?"
Last night I was taking a rest on the couch, and I needed to get up and get something for Jayne.  I was taking a little longer then she thought I should, and she said to me "Do you need to just need to chill out for a little bit longer?"
She's so curious about everything, and asks too many questions to keep up with.
I also made my sister a pair of slippers, I know I've made several pairs, but I have to count them as finishes cause they take me so long!  I'm such a slow knitter, it's not even funny, just a shame.  Maybe I'll get faster with practice, but probably not :)

52 Finishes: Week 23- Baby Benson's Blessing Clothes

I've made several boys suits over the past year, and I think I have perfected the size and pattern.    I really love these little 3 peice suits, I think they compliment a cute baby perfectly.  They really are one of my favorite things to sew.  I'm dreaming up the details I want to put into our new baby's suit, so in the meantime I have some good firends who let me practice on them.  (It's such a hardship on them, right?)  If you want me to practice on you too, buy a suit HERE.
Some of the special things about this suit include, satin ribbon.  It's the perfect way to dress it up a little bit
Buttons are always a hard choice, I love bottons and it takes me a while to choose the perfects ones.  I want them to look great, but not be too flashy
Welt pockets on the vest and pants are probably my favorite detail of all.  Seriously, who doesn't love a pocket?! (Find an awesome tutorial on Welt pockets HERE)
Then of coarse the satin ribbon down the side of the pants, turning them into Fancy Pants.
