Fire Station Field Trip

For preschool today, Jayne's class went to the fire station. It was pretty great. One of the boy's in the class has a dad that is a fireman, so he gave us the tour. Funny enough, the fireman's name is Chard. Haha! (really it's Richard, but he's always gone by Chard) Anyway, Jayne got to see the firetrucks, and go inside. Chard answered questions and asked the kids what they should do if their house was on fire (check the door, and if its hot, just wait in your room. If its safe, then get out of the house!) Chard also put on all of his gear. Jayne was fine until he started to crawl on the ground, she was on the front row and got scared. She was crying. As soon as Chard took his gear off, she started laughing and said, "oh! It's Jake's dad!" Hopefully she won't be so scared in the future. I was telling her that fireman are our Friends and save our lives, that they dress up in that big costume to protect them from fire. She was OK after a little while. Then all the kids got a fireman hat and some candy. It was a good little tour.
The net below is no longer in use.  Chard was telling us that one of the guys on the squad had to jump off the top of the fire station building into the net when he joined the force.  To test his bravery or something.
This station in the only one in Idaho Falls that has a pole. Chard is sliding down it, but he went so fast I couldn't take another picture,  You can just barely see his feet.

The fireman don't want kids to be afraid of them, so they encourage the community to come in and take a tour.  It was neat to see some of the old equipment they used back in the day.  And its always exciting to see a firetruck, no matter how big you are.

That's good to introduce to kids so they aren't afraid. What a great tour!

How fun! Jayne is getting big and looking older. =) It's amazing how that happens when you aren't around them as often!
