52 finishes: week 3- M is for Mustache Onsie

IMG_5052

I’ve been playing around with my new Silhouette Machine, LOVE IT! It can cut fabric too (not advertised, but I thought it was worth a try). I love mustaches (Darick grew one the first month we were married- the only facial hair he can have with his job- and we both had a good laugh over it) To cut out this knit fabric, I placed the silhouette settings on the thickest material and double cut it. (I still had to use my scissors in a couple places) and also ironed on some Heat N Bond prior to the Silhouette cutting. Then I cut it out and ironed it onto a onsie. Super cute, and super easy. I would say there are a few more customized onsies in the Mister’s future.

52 Finishes: Week 2- Monster Momma and a Monster Baby

It’s no secret I love monsters. I love their strange bodies, their monster characteristics- funky colors, textures, patterns and features. There’s something about their quirkiness I just can’t get over. They may even equal my love for robots. When I saw these monsters, I knew I needed to make them too. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I bought the pattern and started on it as soon as possible. My little monsters took shape, and I fell in love. I love making things. I love even more, when what I make instantly makes its home in our lives and we all start to wonder how we even existed before. Sound weird? Maybe, but its true. Everyone in the house loves this little monster duo. Max caresses the momma monster’s savage teeth. Darick can’t help but pick up the baby and put her back in her momma’s monster pocket. And Jayne carries them around and makes them a part of everything she is doing. I just love to look at them. Now we just need a Daddy monster to complete our monster family.IMG_5017 IMG_5012 IMG_5015

super market shenanigans

I do the shopping in the family.  ALL the shopping.  Darick needs a new pair of pants? I go get them.  We run out of milk- on a Saturday night- and its 11:52pm?  I go get milk.  It like an unspoken rule.  I don’t really mind.  The other unspoken rule is I go shopping by myself- no kids!  So usually I go at night, after Darick gets home from work. (perfect break for the kids, and it gives Darick some good parenting time)… Anyway- why tell you all this?  It seems like I have some kind of “experience” happen to me every time I go shopping.  Sometimes its just a rude person that cuts me off from my parking place.  Sometimes its some kid that got lost in the store, and we needed to find his momma.  Something ALWAYS seems to happen.

So I went to a store on New Years Eve (bad idea, I know.  But I needed a few things for our party!)  At this store, you have to bag your own groceries (HATE that part, but the prices make it worth it)  Because it’s a holiday, every checker is open (like 25+ of them)  so there are really short lines, like maybe two shoppers per line.  The checkers at this store are pretty fast too (cause they don’t bag)  So I’m not really worried about searching for a “short” line.    I walking down the line of checkers (grab a loaf of bread) and turn into a line. I notice at the checker to the right of  me there is a lady with a cart, and then from the left comes a different lady who walks into the 1 foot of buffer space I have between my cart, and the shopper in front of me.

To my surprise, the lady calls to her mom (the shopper to the right of me) to come over, that she has a place of line.  This lady totally cut in front of me.  Now, the mom can totally see I am right there.  She says, “are you sure? “ to her daughter.  The daughter says, “Oh it’s fine, we’re in a hurry.” The she pushes my cart (and me!) back like a foot, and pulls her mom’s cart into place.  The mom, starts spouting off excuses, like “I’m sorry, we’re in a hurry!”  Then I say, “oh cause you’re in a hurry, you can cut in from of people?”  The daughter says “ we were here, we’re in a hurry.”  I say “No, you were there (pointing to my left-where she came from)  I was here. We’re all in a hurry, its New Years Eve!”  The mom says, “I’m sorry, we’re in a hurry".”  Hello? Is it just me, or is being in a “hurry” not a good reason to cut in front of people?

I decided I couldn’t stand  to watch these ladies, and I didn’t really want to fight with them (I was about to deck both of them).  So I move to the checker on the right (where the mom was standing)  I unload my groceries… wait for the checker to process my goods, help the old lady behind me unload her groceries (cause I really am a nice person!). Then go to the end of the checkout to bag my groceries.  The old lady’s groceries came down too, and so I bagged hers and put them back in her cart.  Then I went to pay my bill, and I had to wait for the old lady, who was paying hers (writing a check!). I then paid, and turned my cart to walk away.  Guess who hasn’t made it out of their line?  Yeah, the mother and daughter criminal duo!  As I’m walking past their checker, the daughter looks up at me, and I say loud enough for her and momma to hear… “Who’s in a hurry now?!”  and I stroll away.

It was really satisfying.  Not only did I help an old lady with her groceries, I also beat the scoundrels who cut in front of me.  Maybe I’m being over dramatic, but I hate rude people at grocery stores (you know, like the ones who take the package of chicken you were about to grab)  Its the one thing I hate about doing all the shopping.  But that blessed New Years eve, the nice guy (me!) wound up on top.  Do you have these kind of things happen to you shopping?  Is it just me?

52 finishes: Week 1- The fish Hat

This is a fish hat I made for Jayne, I can't decide if I want to make it a dead or live for now.... so it lives for now. You can check out other creations here (knitted) or here (crochet). I made the crochet version, and I started out following the pattern provided. It was making no sense to me (which is saying something) so I just made up my own thing based on their picture. It was a fun project, and Jayne loves it. I think I'll try the knitted version next.

I'm participating in Summer's (from Artfulife) challenge to do some kind of creating every week this year. Basically its celebrating art in your life, whatever that might be. Like sewing, knitting, painting, quilting, scrap booking.... whatever! I think it will be fun, and I'm pretty excited about it. So I'm going to do some kind of crafting, and post a finished project every week, this whole year! Wanna join in? Check out Summer's post here. Celebrate the art in your life!

Facts

Max is 9mo. old. He does this kind of "walrus" crawl. He lifts himself up into a cobra pose, then he falls forward. He recently sprouted 2 teeth (2 days before Christmas). He still won't eat real food. He likes dry things, like crackers, puffs, cereal, bread... but if it has any moisture, he tolerates about one bite. Then he realizes what you are doing and clamps his mouth shut. He won't take a bottle, but occasionally will drink from a sippy cup. On a slightly related note, Max bit me on New Years Day. One more bite from him, and he can pretty much count on a bottle from now on, like it or not :)
Here are some funny things Jayne has said lately. She is HILARIOUS!
She had her first dentist appointment last week. I was telling her hbow fun it is to go to the dentist and how they tickle your teeth, and its pretty much the best place on the planet (lie? maybe...) She asked me what the dentists name was and I said "doctor... hm. I can't remember" she said "lets call him Dr. Goose" I told her that was a good idea and then she stared laughing really hard. then she said "Dr. Goose, that's really silly. Why would his mom name him that?!"
(The next day at the dentists, she called the dentist Dr. Goose, and he told her his name was Dr. Cooper... she started laughing and told him it was goose, and he was too embaressed so he goes by Cooper. So funny!)
I was putting away all the Christmas decorations and Jayne was watching me. She say me putting away one of my Nativities and she shouted, "Goodnight baby Jesus, you can have cuddles with the cow until we wake you up next year!"
